Palm Oil and Sulphates

Palm Oil,  with the atrocious behaviour of the industry in recent years Melanie invested a great amount of time and effort developing a product that was not dependent on palm oil, we truly believe we have a product that surpasses the normal palm oil soaps. We believe that soap manufacturers that use palm oil are simply lazy or uninspired, even the palm oil industry admits the tag “sustainable” is not guaranteed.

Sodium Laurel Sulphate, has been linked with some horrible ailments, from all sorts of skin allergies to liver cancer in children. We note here at the Montville Soap Company that most complaints of allergies to soap are more likely to be caused by the sulphates which has long been noted as an irritant causing anything from itchy skin to asthma. This is all hardly surprising, take a look at the ingredients of anything requiring a surfactant from the laundry powder to tooth paste most will contain SLS.

Many commercial soap manufacturers claim “Palm Oil free” yet use Sodium Laurel Sulphate, 98% of all commercially produced Sodium Laurel Sulphate is produced by chemically modifying palm oil, this is probably the biggest single industrial user of Palm Oil.
